Cold rolls are used in cold forming of low-, high-alloy steels and non-ferrous metals and must meet specific requirements. For this reason, they are a special field of cold-work steels.
Deutsche Edelstahlwerke supplies cold rolls, from blanks to ready-to-use rolls, exclusively from its own production - from steel production to hot forming, heat treatment and mechanical processing. The use of special metallurgical processes such as electro-slag remelting (ESR) or vacuum-arc remelting (VAR) guarantees the quality of high surface quality, low purity and good isotropy of the material.
- 2 - 3% Cr steels: Due to their alloy state, these steels have a balanced ratio of hardness, hardening depth and toughness. These steels are used exclusively for surface-hardened rolls. For special requirements, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke also offers all variants in remelted condition.
- 5% Cr steel: Compared to the 2 - 3% Cr steels, this steel has a higher compressive strength. It can be used through-hardened or shell-hardened condition.
- 7 - 12% Cr steels: These steels are mainly used for through-hardened cold rolls. In special cases Deutsche Edelstahlwerke can also produce partially hardened cold rolls made from these steels.
