Launch of the plastic mould steel Formadur 400

Precisely shaped and complex geometries – Deutsche Edelstahlwerke presents their new development Formadur 400 for the first time at the Moulding Expo. With this new developed plastic mould steel, the subsidiary of the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group sets a technological milestone in the area of surface quality. To achieve best surface finishing this prehardened special steel is characterized by a homogenous microstructure with a hardness range of 365 – 410 HB. Due to this, Formadur 400 offers its outstanding polishability, which in turn considerably improves product quality in plastic injection moulding, for example of splashboards and tailgates.

Change in management at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH

Oliver Bell will be leaving Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW) on 31.05.2016 at his own request. He was Chairman of the Board of Management from April 2015 and was also responsible for the Sales Department. The reason behind his decision is differing opinions about the strategic direction of DEW.

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, a company in the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group, will have a new Chairman of the Management Board in the form of Oliver Bell as of 1 April 2015. Mr Bell will also manage the Sales Department.

Grand opening of the new secondary metallurgic centre at the Witten location of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke

That is how Garrelt Duin, Trade and Industry Secretary of North Rhine-Westphalia, commented on the official opening of the new secondary metallurgic centre of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH at the Witten location by Dr. Martin Löwendick, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, and Clemens Iller, CEO of the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH group.

Starting in summer 2014, steel wire coils available in up to 2.3 tons - Deutsche Edelstahlwerke invests in new butt welding machine at Hagen site

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke is expanding coil production at their Hagen facility through the addition of a type SS 120 double upset wire butt welding machine from Strecker. Installation of the new system is scheduled for June 2014. It is designed to weld 8 and 25 mm specialty steel wire for applications requiring high-quality weld seams.

Emergency reinforcements. Deutsche Edelstahlwerke marks a first by holding qualification ceremony for industrial fire-fighter apprentices

For the first time, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke has qualified nine apprentices as industrial fire-fighters. To celebrate this premier, the steel company held the official qualification ceremony last Friday at the LWL Industrial Museum Zeche Zollern in Dortmund.

Today 25 Deutsche Edelstahlwerke apprentices received their examination results in black and white. During a summery boat trip on the Kemnade reservoir, Managing Director Dirk Wallesch presented the newly qualified specialists with their certificates in a festive setting.

The modernisation of the secondary metallurgic treatment facilities at the Witten location of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke is proceeding according to schedule. The work on the shell construction of the new hall, where state-of-the- art units will go into service from 2014, is almost complete.

On 1st July 2013, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke is welcoming Dr. Martin Löwendick as the new Chairman of the Board of Management. Löwendick has been a member of the Board since February and is the Head of the Sales department. He is taking over the role of Johannes Nonn, CEO of SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH AG, under which Deutsche Edelstahlwerke operates.

Science lessons with a difference. Deutsche Edelstahlwerke sponsors environmental education at Krefeld schools

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke has teamed up with Deutsche Umwelt-Aktion e.V. (DUA), an organisation with a focus on environmental projects, to bring a programme of exciting science lessons to the classrooms of Edmund-ter-Meer secondary school. The lessons take place outside of the school's normal timetable. In fact, a number of Krefeld secondary schools are benefiting from the specialty steel company's sponsorship of teaching units on the subject of wind energy. The aim of these is to help pupils gain a better understanding of how wind power plants work and their significance in environmental contexts.

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke supporting employees on care. Agreement with Siegen-Wittgenstein branch of German Red Cross (DRK) to promote work/life balance

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW) signed a cooperation agreement with DRK-Kreisverband Siegen-Wittgenstein e.V. on 1 April 2013. This will give the steel producer's employees in Siegen access to rapid assistance and advice from domestic care providers if there a need to provide long-term care within a family.

Package of measures to keep Deutsche Edelstahlwerke on track - Additional savings and increased market cultivation intended to steer company back into calmer waters

In order to boost Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH's investment strength and its locations long-term, the company is adding a further package of measures to the results improvement programme approved in 2012. This will ensure steel works are able to achieve acceptable results going forward – regardless of any economic fluctuations anticipated in future.

33 apprentices at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke have successfully completed their final examinations. To celebrate the event, last Friday the steel company marked a first by holding the official qualification ceremony for the new specialists at the LVR Museum of Industry in Oberhausen.

"Knowledge transfer is becoming a survival strategy". Christel Humme visits the careers workshop division of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke

For around two hours on Tuesday, Christel Humme – SPD member of the German Bundestag and Deputy Chair of the Committee on Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth – exchanged ideas with the management team of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Karrierewerkstatt GmbH. The managing director of the careers workshop, Ute Dreher, took part in the talks alongside Burkhard Hartmann in his dual role as Deutsche Edelstahlwerke's chief personnel officer and co-managing director of the subsidiary. Recent developments in the training and labour market were discussed in the light of demographic change based on the example of the careers workshop.

oikos Winter School visits Deutsche Edelstahlwerke. Focus on life and the environment in the Ruhr area

25 students from the USA, India and across Europe visited the steelworks in Witten yesterday as part of the 2012 oikos Winter School. Following a tour of operations at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, a workshop was held at the company's communications centre. Participants examined sustainable transformation processes based on life and the environment in the Ruhr metropolitan region as an example.

Energy efficiency: also a priority in India

A delegation from India visits Deutsche Edelstahlwerke in Witten: On Tuesday, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke welcomed 13 business representatives from India who were on a fact-finding mission to see energy-efficient technologies in use based on the example of a steelworks. The event was part of a week-long trip to Germany organized by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.

Witten apprentice awarded Max Greve prize - Deutsche Edelstahlwerke is delighted at Franziska Jackler's outstanding achievement

On 18th September, the Chamber of Commerce for the middle Ruhr region awarded Franziska Jackler, a former apprentice at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, the Max Greve prize. The newly qualified EU industrial clerk ranks amongst the best five of altogether 2,213 examinees who took their final examinations this year.

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH, together with IMR Innovative Metal Recycling GmbH and Eisen- & Stein-Gesellschaft mbH Horn & Co has established the joint venture company "dhi Rohstoffmanagement GmbH". dhi starts operations in September 2012.

An apprenticeship at the click of a mouse. Students can apply online to Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH

Anyone wishing to take up an apprenticeship with Deutsche Edelstahlwerke in 2013 can apply online from July. The company introduced the online application procedure in 2011 specifically with the young, web-savvy generation in mind. This generation includes Julian Linke, one of the successful applicants to Deutsche Edelstahlwerke via the online procedure last year. Julian commenced his apprenticeship as an electronics engineer in August.

Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), a well-respected independent certifier of management systems, has now certified the energy management system of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH according to international standard ISO 50001:2011.
