Effective June 1, 2019, the Supervisory Board appointed Jürgen Alex as the new Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke. Previously, Alex had already acted as spokesman for the four-member management team. He has held various positions at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke and its predecessor companies since 1994 and has headed the sales department of the steel company since January 2018.
After studying Metallurgy and Materials Science at RWTH Aachen University between 1989 and 1995, and subsequently completing a trainee programme at Fried. Krupp AG Hoesch-Krupp, Jürgen Alex joined the technical customer service team at Krupp Edelstahlprofile in Siegen, dealing with stainless, acid-resistant and heat-resistant steel.
In 1999 he moved to the company's Hagen site, where he took on the role of Quality Control Manager and, later, Head of Bright Steel Production.
Between 2005 and 2006, he was employed as the Works Manager at Hagener Feinstahl.
From 2011 to 2017 he has been in charge of the engineering department as CTO of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke.
He previously served as the Technical Director at the Hagen site.
